Celebrating Professional Track Faculty

Building on the success of UMD's first Professional Track Faculty Symposium last year, we will kick off our second year of PTK celebration with a day of sharing, learning, and networking on Friday, November 1 from 1 to 5 pm.

This session will be emceed by Cassondra Pope, Lecturer in the Department of Communication, and includes three PTK faculty members sharing their stories of their success at UMD:

Taryn Devereux

Taryn Devereux

Taryn Devereux is a Faculty Specialist with UMD Extension and AREC-AGNR, specializing in international programming, research and teaching in agriculture. She has managed the Afghanistan Agricultural Extension Project and UMD Women in Agriculture Program in Ethiopia, and conducted Provost-funded research on market value chains in Tanzania, and developed the first AGNR Global Classroom in partnership with a Liberian University as part of the campus-wide Global Classroom Initiative.

Dylan Selterman

Dylan Selterman

Dylan Selterman is a Senior Lecturer in the psychology department. He leads the DREAM Lab, with research interests including romantic attraction/dating, emotions, attachment in interpersonal relationships, patterns of dreaming, sexual behavior, and morality/ethics. He is on the board of the International Association for Relationships Research and is a contributor to Science of Relationships and In Mind Magazine, and to The Washington Post, The Conversation, and National Geographic.

Ebony Shockley

Ebony Shockley

Ebony Terrell Shockley is an Associate Clinical Professor who researches under-represented students and their teachers in STEM, Literacy, and Exceptional Education contexts. She is Director of the Office of Teacher and Leader Education, and Director of the Master's Certification Program in Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. Committed to equity and inclusion, Ebony is also the College of Education Diversity Officer. She is the recipient of several awards and is a Co-I for An Efficacy Study of Toggle Talk, exploring African American English speakers, and for GAANN: UMD GROW (Generating a Research Outstanding Workforce), designed to increase the ethnic and gender diversity of STEM professionals.

Cassondra Pope is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication, who will serve as Master of Ceremonies. She has worked in education for over eleven years and was awarded a Women in Science and Engineering scholarship from NASA.
