My long term goal is to build an interdisciplinary program that would change the way social science students think about mathematics and vice versa. The program will attract science and math majors to the social sciences and analytically skilled social science majors to applied mathematics.

Expected results from the sabbatical period:

• Seek funding for the project from several foundations and agencies
• Involve interdisciplinary group of colleagues in the project
• Develop a 100 level course that would jump start the program

Value of the sabbatical project to the mission of UMD: Capture students' interests early enough so they can pursue a program of learning.
